    «Resilience Goes Balkans »

    Volos Academy for Theological Studies

    Οn November 26 2020, the webinar “Resilience Goes Balkans” was successfully organized by Volos Academy for Theological Studies. During the webinar a broader introduction to the goals and the importance of Resilience in contemporary religious studies was made, followed by a brief presentation of the Academy’s role in the overall program. At the same time, the current situation of theological and religious studies in Greece as well as in some Balkan countries was depicted, followed by a discussion on the role of Resilience infrastructure both in promoting and facilitating accessibility in tools for valid information about religious phenomenon from the perspective of young researchers, teaching staff from all levels of education, representatives from the major religious traditions as well as Non-Governmental Organizations.

    The following people participated in the Webinar: Karla Boersma (Theologische Universiteit Apeldoorn, WP5 leader) “Introduction to Resilience”, Paraskevi Arapoglou (External Associate, Volos Academy for Theological Studies, member of WP5) “The Role of Volos Academy for Theological Studies in Resilience”, Hasma Osman (Mufti of Didimoticho) “My experience from the Undergraduate Islamic Studies Program of the A.U.Th. and its contribution to the Muslim religious community in Thrace”, Aggeliki Ziaka (Associate Professor at the School of Theology, A.U.Th.) “Religious Studies at the A.U.Th. and the importance of Resilience”, Michał Choptiany (University of Warsaw, member of WP5) “Religious studies in Poland and the role of Resilience”, Xanthi Almpanaki (Moderator of Theologians’ Educational Work in East Macedonia and Thrace regional office for the primary and secondary education) “Building co-operation and Resilience in the field of religious education”, Anna Lysikatou (Associate of the Patriarchal Institute for Patristic Studies) “Resilience matters: The Patriarchal Institute for Patristic Studies, its microfilm and slides collection in the digital era: past or future?”, Fr. Athenagoras Loukataris (NGO “Faros of the World”) “The contribution of the ‘Faros of the World’ in the co-operation of religious traditions”, Ivan Christov (Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridiski) “Resilience in Bulgaria”, Ahmed Colic (Universitet U Sarajevu, member of WP5) “Religious education and the role of Resilience in Bosnia-Herzegovina”, Aida Veliaj, (Albanian University UFO, member of WP5) “Religious studies and the contribution of Resilience in Albania”.

    A significant number of PhD candidates in theology and religious studies from Greece and Bulgaria participated in the webinar, as well as representatives from the major religious traditions in Greece, young researchers both from Greece and abroad.

    RESILIENCE stands for REligious Studies Infrastructure: tooLs, Innovation, Experts, conNections, and Centers in Europe and it initially responds to the needs of the academic community but at the same time it aims to expand its outreach to the broader public. The Infrastructure offers all the necessary tools for an innovative approach to religious studies that can also be used towards the establishment of a European response to the challenges posed by religious diversity.
